Inaugurated on October 26, 2001, the Paper Museum Terras de Santa Maria is the first museum space dedicated to the History of Paper in Portugal.
The creation of a monographic museum dedicated to the History of Paper is justified by the importance that, since 1708, the paper industry has had in the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira and in several neighboring counties that integrate a vast region of the old Land of Santa Maria . Simultaneously, this new museographic proposal dedicated to the History of the Paper has filled a gap in the Portuguese Industrial Museology.
The Paper Museum, being owned by the Municipality of Santa Maria da Feira, is part of the Division of Cultural Heritage of its trusteeship.
Since 18 May 2002, this museum is part of the Portuguese Museum Network.
