Categories Percussion Competition

A. Students up to age 22
Elimination Round
– A piece of mallets at the candidate’s choice (Vibraphone or Marimba).
– A piece of Snare Drum at the candidate’s choice.
Final Round
– “Mind a Gap”, “Keep Left”, First Movement – Luís Tinoco.
– A piece of Snare Drum at the candidate’s choice.

B. Students up to age 18
Elimination Round
– A piece of mallets at the candidate’s choice (Vibraphone or Marimba).
– A piece of Snare Drum at the candidate’s choice.
Final Round
– “Tambourine Paraphrase”- Keiko Abe.
– A piece of Snare Drum at the candidate’s choice.

C. Students up to age 16
Elimination Round
– A piece of mallets at the candidate’s choice (Vibraphone or Marimba).
– A piece of Snare Drum at the candidate’s choice.
Final Round
– “Gitano”, First Movement – Alice Gomez.
– A piece of Snare Drum at the candidate’s choice.

D. Students up to age 14
Elimination Round
– A piece of mallets at the candidate’s choice (Vibraphone or Marimba).
– A piece of Snare Drum at the candidate’s choice.
Final Round
– A piece of mallets at the candidate’s choice (Vibraphone or Marimba).
– “Fragments For Timpani” – John H. Beck (Timpani).

E. Students up to age 12
Elimination Round
– A piece of mallets at the candidate’s choice (Vibraphone or Marimba).
– A piece of Snare Drum at the candidate’s choice.
Final Round
– A piece of mallets at the candidate’s choice (Vibraphone or Marimba).
– “Fanfaria”, “Solo Pieces for Timpani” – Gert Bomhof.

F. Students up to age 10
Single Round
– A piece of mallets at the candidate’s choice (Vibraphone or Marimba).
– A piece of Snare Drum at the candidate’s choice.
– “Allegretto”, “Graded Music for Timpani Book I” – Ian Wright.

G. Students up to age 8
Single Round
– A piece of mallets at the candidate’s choice (Vibraphone or Marimba).
– A piece of Snare Drum at the candidate’s choice.

Additional Notes
· Each round shall not exceed 10 minutes in categories C, D, E, F and G. Categories A and B may play for up to 20 minutes;
· Studies will not be accepted, only pieces;
· The Marimba available for the competition will be an “Adams Classic Series” 5 octaves;
· Vibraphone is an ADAMS – Concert Voyager;
· Timpani will be an ADAMS Professional 32″ 29″ 26″ and 23″;
* If the competitors practice the German set (23″ 26″ 29″ 32″), they must inform at the time of registration, to enable the logistics in the arrangement of the sets with the candidates;
· Candidates will have the opportunity to try out the space and the instruments in their corresponding study schedule, by means of the number of registrations;
· All the necessary percussion material will be available to the candidates, who may choose to take their boxes already assembled so as not to exceed the regulatory time and thus leave this information at the time of registration.

 

The performance by heart is not required
